An Exciting Announcement From Us at Conscious Good!

Announcing Conscious Good’s Movie of the Month

Since launching Conscious Good in 2016, though we have focused on short videos and podcasts, our goal was always to showcase the best in Conscious Cinema – feature length films and documentaries.  Today we have realized that goal.

But it’s also the achievement of a greater goal of mine, sharing the true foundation for happiness.  A few years ago, I started production on a documentary film about happiness. The idea was to tell the story of a wealthy, successful individual who was actually miserable inside, and witness his or her journey to discover true, lasting happiness. The idea was to weave a fictional character’s journey through real-life conversations with happiness gurus and thought-leaders.

As I shared the concept with a friend, he said, “Wow, it sounds like the film my friend Tom Shadyac is making. You should check it out.” And so, several weeks later, I sat on the floor of my local yoga studio and watched I AM.  Not only was I blown away by the fact that the film was a real life version of the film I wanted to make, but also the quality of the filmmaking was exceptional. My husband, Sasha and I fell in love with the film and Tom.  So much so that during the Q&A after the film, when Tom mentioned that he was teaching a course at Pepperdine University, Sasha asked if he could join the class. Tom agreed. And that was the beginning of our friendship – mine, Sasha’s and Tom’s. Now, years later, that friendship has influenced the launch of Conscious Good’s Movie of the Month.

Each month we will announce a “conscious” feature film available to rent on a pay-per-stream basis. The film I AM was chosen to launch this initiative, not only because of my friendship with Tom, but because the film propelled a new wave of Conscious Cinema. There were many of us working in Hollywood who had made or who wanted to make transformational films, films that could change the world for the better, but none told from the point of view of one of the most successful filmmakers in Hollywood.

Each streaming costs $2.99, payable through PayPal.  Here are the benefits of viewing I AM on ConsciousGood.com:

  • The filmmaker, and/or their chosen non-profit, receives 50% of revenues, more than they would “elsewhere.”
  • You will be supporting conscious cinema: entertainment that’s good for you and the planet.

If you have never seen I AM, prepare to fall in love.  If you have seen it, take this opportunity to treat yourself, your friends and your family to another transformational experience.  ENJOY!

About the Film

I AM is a film that poses two practical and provocative questions: what’s wrong with our world, and what can we do to make it better?

Tom was the creative force behind such blockbusters as “Ace Ventura,” “Liar Liar,” “The Nutty Professor,” and “Bruce Almighty.” However, in I AM, Tom steps in front of the camera to recount what happened to him after a cycling accident left him incapacitated, possibly for good. Though he ultimately recovered, he emerged with a new sense of purpose, determined to share his own awakening to his prior life of excess and greed, and to investigate how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and walk in the world.

Armed with nothing but his innate curiosity and a small crew to film his adventures, Tom set out on a twenty-first century quest for enlightenment.  Meeting with a variety of thinkers and doers–remarkable men and women from the worlds of science, philosophy, academia, and faith–including such luminaries as David Suzuki, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Lynne McTaggart, Ray Anderson, John Francis, Coleman Barks, and Marc Ian Barasch.

Ironically, in the process of trying to figure out what’s wrong with the world, Tom discovered there’s more right than he ever imagined.  He learned that the heart, not the brain, may be man’s primary organ of intelligence, and that human consciousness and emotions can actually affect the physical world.

Tom also discovers that, contrary to conventional thinking, cooperation and not competition, may be nature’s most fundamental operating principle.  Thus, I AM shows consensus decision-making is the norm amongst many species, from insects and birds to deer and primates.  The film further discovers that humans actually function better and remain healthier when expressing positive emotions, such as love, care, compassion, and gratitude, versus their negative counterparts, anxiety, frustration, anger and fear.

With great wit, warmth, curiosity, and masterful storytelling skills, he reveals what science now tells us is one of the principal truths of the universe, a message that is as simple as it is significant:
We are all connected –   connected to each other and to everything around us.  Tom’s hope “is that I AM is a window into Truth, a glimpse into the miracle, the mystery and magic of who we really are, and of the basic nature of the connection and unity of all things.”
