Ayurveda means a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science). The sages of India began teaching this practice over five thousand years ago and it remains one of the world’s most sophisticated mind-body health systems. The main idea of Ayurveda is that we can use the laws of nature to heal disease and illness in our bodies as well as to maintain overall health.
What are the physical benefits?
Certain herbs used in Ayurveda have been known to combat anxiety and depression. In fact, the herb Bacopa has been proven to nearly match the effectiveness of prescription anti-anxiety medications. Herbs over pharmaceuticals? Yes, please.
What effects does Ayurveda have on the mind?
There are multiple ways to meditate, but, typically, you sit in a relaxed position with your eyes closed. Make no attempt to control the breath and calmly try to observe your thoughts and then let them pass.
