Simple Steps for Springtime Rejuvenation!

“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn.”

— Lewis Grizzard

The start of spring is more than just the transition from one season to the next. It marks the beginning of longer days and more sunshine, budding trees and wide-open windows, warm breezes and outdoor exercise. Springtime is the perfect opportunity for us to shed our winter skin and reboot our systems

We can awaken our energy by focusing on certain rejuvenating yoga poses. Here are a few of the best ones to kick off the spring season via mindbodygreen..

1. Seated Spinal Twist / Bharadvaja’s Twist

This pose is great for relieving stress and improving digestion. Sit on the floor with your legs straight in front of you. Shift to the right and bend your knees, then swing both legs to the left. Your feet should be stacked one on top of the other, resting on the floor next to your left hip. Breathe deeply to lengthen your spine.

2. Cat and Cow / Marjaryasana and Bitilasana

These two poses work together and are wonderful for reducing anxiety – because who needs that in the springtime? Plus, they strengthen the back and give a gentle massage to organs in the belly.

Start in a tabletop position with your hands directly under your shoulders. As you breathe in, lift your head and tailbone while your belly reaches towards the floor. During the exhale, curl your back towards the ceiling and bring your tailbone and forehead towards your mat. Continue to let your breath guide you through a few rounds of cat and cow pose.

3. Child’s Pose/ Balasana

I know what you’re thinking: ‘Child’s Post is so basic – how is this going to help me reboot?” Well, Child’s Pose restores the body’s circulation and, most importantly, it does wonders to calm the brain. In order to truly rejuvenate, we need our mind to be as relaxed as possible – so get to Child’s Posin’!

Kneel on the floor and bring your knees under your chest. Allow your forehead to press into your mat and lay your arms by your sides. Breathe deeply and hold this pose for as long as you can. The result will be nothing short of miraculous.
