“He that plants trees loves others beside himself.”
— Thomas Fuller
On the very first Earth Day, way back in 1970, 20 million people gathered in the streets across the United States to protest the Industrial Revolution. On that day, an environmental movement was born. Since then, we have been fighting to keep our planet healthy.
Here are 5 ways you can help make a positive impact on Earth Day this year (spoiler alert: planting a tree is, in fact, on here).
1. Take a Walk
That’s right, leave your car at home this Saturday. You may not think that one car off the road will make a difference, but imagine if your whole neighborhood opted for another mode of transportation. You can be the first incremental change!
2. Be Vegetarian for the Day
3. Plant a Tree
And while you’re at it, start growing your own food – or even just a basil plant! It’s an inexpensive way to know that there’s no pesticides going into the Earth or the food you’re consuming.
4. Recycle Your E-waste
Most of us have no clue what to do with our old phones and other gadgets that have been lying around the house for years. But what we don’t realize is that since we can’t throw them in the regular recycle bin, e-waste is starting to take over. Here’s how you can recycle it.
5. Host A Movie Screening
Choose your all-time fave environment-focused documentary and watch it with a few friends. There’s no better way to celebrate Earth day than by becoming more educated about the planet with a few of your favorite earthlings.
